Can’t decide between a Fiji, Maldives, or Tahiti/Bora Bora Honeymoon?
Don’t worry, our experts have the answers!
Maldives- an exotic Indian ocean honeymoon paradise offers the ultimate in luxury, the utmost in privacy, top-level dining, amazing crystal clear water and overwater bungalows. Some bungalows have their own plunge pools. The Maldives are located in the Indian Ocean and it can take over 25 hours or more to get to the Maldives from the USA. The best time of year for driest weather is November to April. Summer can bring rain showers and cloudy skies, but you may still get some nice weather from May to October in the Maldives.
Things to do: Couples can go snorkeling, get spa treatments, have romantic dining options, and do a lot of reading and relaxing. Expect to spend anywhere from $7500-12,000 for two for a 5-7 night stay in Maldives depending on the time of year and hotel choice. Some hotels include meals, some do not. We have 4 and 5+ star hotel choices. Warning: it can be rainy between July and September in the Maldives. This is a destination that is dependent on the sun, without the sun out it can be disappointing.
The main downside of the Maldives: there is very little to see or do outside of the resort, you are pleasantly marooned on an exotic “atoll” (flat narrow strip of white sand surrounded by ocean) in the middle of the Indian Ocean, at a luxury resort that will pamper you with great food and service, and spa treatments.
French Polynesia (Tahiti/Bora Bora/Moorea) – A south pacific honeymoon paradise 7.5-hour flight from Los Angeles, some of the most beautiful islands in the world, and a bit more going on than the Maldives. These are French-occupied islands, with a strong influence of French and Tahitian culture. The Island of Tahiti is a stopping point, most couples head to Bora Bora or Moorea. We encourage our clients to visit some of the lesser-known outer islands such as Tahaa and Rangiroa.
Bora Bora – jaw-dropping beautiful scenery, is actually a small island with an amazing rock formation in the middle of the island that is world-famous called Mt Otemano. The luxury resorts are scattered all around the island – either located on atolls which are narrow strips of sand or the overwater bungalows which are dotted out from the beach with views of the mountain. You need a ferry to get to the main island which has a handful of restaurants and pearl shops. The hotels are run by large chains such as Hilton, Sofitel, Four Seasons.
Moorea – is beautiful as well, less expensive in general, and has a little more to see and do on the land. Moorea does not offer as many luxury hotel options. Some couples opt to stay on Moorea to save money and diversify their honeymoon experience. We also have packages combining Tahaa island with Bora Bora for the Ultimate Honeymoon combination.
The downsides of French Polynesia: It is one of the most expensive locations to honeymoon in the world, so couples need to be prepared financially and realize that the cost of everything is about double that of back home. It might be perfect if your heart is set on honeymooning in a luxury overwater bungalow, and crave brilliant turquoise ocean water perfect for swimming, paddle boarding and kayaking. This is not recommended for couples who are price sensitive and who want a lot of adventures. There are no coral reefs in Bora Bora, so not ideal for divers unless you are willing to venture to Rangiroa island. You can feed stingrays and sharks on an amazing expedition or go jet skiing around the lagoon (about $150 per person for these excursions). Expect to spend $10k+ for two on a trip to Bora Bora for a week with air fare from USA.
Fiji Islands- an unspoiled South Pacific Paradise only ten hours nonstop from Los Angeles you’ll find 330 islands in the South Pacific. This uniquely beautiful island group is one of our favorite honeymoon locations for couples seeking privacy, romance AND adventure. It is an authentic, non-touristy location with many smaller, secluded hideaways geared for romance, where meals are mostly included. Fiji is unspoiled by tourism where there are a lot more things to see and do, such as hiking, waterfalls, village visits, zip-lining, great local music, and shopping for local handicrafts.
The people are amazing in Fiji and love Americans. They make you feel at home, and their warm smiles will light up your spirit. This is more like a “National Geographic” location for your honeymoon where you can have authentic experiences and immerse yourself in a beautiful culture. Accommodations range from rustic bungalows to very high end luxury bungalows with pools and hot tubs. Fiji is 10 hours from LAX, and a trip can cost anywhere from $4500-15k for two depending on hotel choice and time of year.
One of our favorite hideaways in Fiji is Qamea Island Resort. Our Qamea Honeymoon Package is one of the best values in Fiji and offers a unique private experience that is not going to break the bank.
